In 1955, under the commission of the Ministry of Culture, the Shanghai Library (Shanghai Institute of Scientific and Technical Information) established the "National Index of Chinese Newspapers and Periodicals" magazine, the earliest comprehensive Chinese-language publication for literature retrieval in China. Over the past sixty years, the "National Index of Chinese Newspapers and Periodicals" has evolved from a monthly magazine to a comprehensive knowledge service system integrating print and online platforms. Within this system, the full-text databases of the "National Index of Chinese Newspapers and Periodicals" have successively published rare digital resources such as the "Full-text Database of Late Qing Periodicals" (1833-1911), "Full-text Database of Republican Period Periodicals" (1911-1949), and "Full-text Database of Modern Chinese and English Newspapers" (1850-1951).
