The 2019 Library Director Forum on Development of Medical Library was held in Library of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen on December 13. The forum boosted communications on the development of medical libraries in Shenzhen as well as some other big cities in the country. It was cohosted by Library of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Library of Southern University of Science and Technology, and Shenzhen University Library.
Directors of the host libraries, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University Library, Fudan University Library, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library, Sun Yat-sen University Library, University of Macau Library, Library of Academy of Military Sciences, and Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center Library, the consultant for CUHK-Shenzhen medical library development, and some members of Pre-opening Team of School of Medicine of CUHK-Shenzhen, attended the forum.
Professor Richard Ye, Dean of School of Life and Health Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, delivered a welcome speech. He introduced The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and elaborated the reforms and challenges of medical libraries in the digital information era. Professor Jack Cheng, Director of Pre-opening Team of School of Medicine, introduced the school and its development plan, and discussed how medical libraries could support the teaching and learning of medical schools as well as other medical organizations.
Directors of libraries shared their opinions on topics such as the relations between main library and medical library, subject services of medical libraries, and co-development of medical resources during the forum.
The discussion have exceeded participants’ expectation and will benefit The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen as well as other universities in Shenzhen that are in the planning of medical school tremendously.
