Student Application
Eligibility
Registered students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen).

Card Type
1) Institutional Library Card; 2) Personal Reader’s Card
1) Institutional Library Card:
Usage Policies
- Borrowing Fees: Free of Charge
- Each user may only borrow one Institutional Library Card at a time.
- The borrowing period for each card is two weeks, and renewals are not permitted.
- In case of loss, a replacement fee and a processing fee, totaling RMB 100, will be charged to the user.
- If the library card is not returned on time, a late fee of RMB 1 will be charged for each day overdue. If the card is more than 10 days overdue, it will be considered lost. CUHK-Shenzhen Library will contact CUHK Library to issue a new card and deactivate the old one. The user will be responsible for the loss fee.
Application Steps
- Submit an online application: Complete the CUHK Library Card Application Form for Students.
- A waitlist will apply; notification will be sent by email when a card becomes available.
- Collect the Institutional Library Card immediately in person.
- Return the Institutional Library Card to the service desk on time
2) Personal Reader’s Card
Usage Policies
- Application Fees: HK$705 (per year) or HK$140 (per month)
- Each user may only apply one Personal Reader's Card at a time.
- The card Validity Period is one year or one month, subject application mode.
- In case of loss, the cardholder is required to submit a replacement application directly to The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library and cover the associated replacement cost
Application Steps
- Submit an online application: Complete the CUHK Library Card Application Form for Students.
- Review notification: The library will notify applicants via email upon approval.
- In-person registration by visiting the CUHK Library Service Counter with:
- Original CUHK-Shenzhen Campus Card.
- Corresponding fee in HKD (accepted via cash or mobile payment).
Notes
- Students studying under the double major programme with CUHK-Shenzhen will receive a CU Link card when they commence studies on CUHK-HK campus.

- The Institutional Library Card and Personal Reader's Card are strictly for personal use and must not be lent or transferred to others under any circumstances. If any lending or transfer is discovered, the student’s eligibility to borrow the institutional library card will be permanently revoked, and the incident will be reported to their respective School and College.
- To ensure that you receive and can promptly process all follow-up information regarding your application, the library will send all notifications via email.
- Please make sure the email address you provide is valid and able to receive messages.
- Do not unsubscribe from the notification emails, as this will prevent you from receiving important information and guidance for subsequent procedures.
- If you have accidentally unsubscribed, please contact the library promptly to restore your email notification service.
- Please note that the library card holders are not eligible to use the Campus Shuttle School Bus Service within the CUHK campus. However, You may consider using the CUHK Paid Shuttle Light Bus service for transportation between the University Library and the MTR station. Staff Application
Eligibility
Full-time CUHK-Shenzhen staff (including academic, research, and administrative staff).
Access Privileges

- Services:
- Borrowing privileges: 10 items (at any one time) for 30 days
- Onsite access to library collections
- Onsite access to most library e-resources using library computer terminals
- Use of library facilities
- Enquiry services
- Fees: HKD 60/year (card issuance fee).
Application Steps
- Submit an online application: Complete the CUHK Library Card Application Form for staff.
- Collect authorization documents: After approval, retrieve the official application letter from the CUHK-Shenzhen Library 2F "Ask Us" Desk with the notification email.
- In-person registration by visiting the CUHK Library Service Counter with:
- Official application form endorsed by Library of CUHK-Shenzhen.
- Recent passport-sized photo (any background color).
- HKD 60 (accepted via cash or mobile payment).
- Original CUHK-Shenzhen Campus Card.
Notes
- The application form is only accessible via the Campus Network. If you are off-campus, please connect to the VPN before proceeding.
- The Borrower's Card is strictly for personal use and must not be lent or transferred to others under any circumstances.
