Study Room Regulations

Five types of study rooms are provided in the University Library and Philip Wong Yu-hong & Anita Leung Fung-yee Library: Group Study Room, SilenCell, Quiet Study Room, Staff Meeting Room, Staff Research Room, with details briefly summarized in the table below.

Reservation Policy for the Study Room

  1. Group Study Room
  • The reservation opens to all library users;
  • Group reservation with min. 2 users is required;
  • The reservation can be made 7 days in advance
  • The time length for undergraduate and exchange student reservation: max. 2 hours per block;
  • The time length for graduate student and staff reservation: max. 3 hours per block;
  • First-come, first-served basis if there is no online reservation

 

  1. Single SilenCell
  • The reservation opens to all library users;
  • Only individual booking is allowed;
  • The reservation can be made 3 days in advance;
  • One person may occupy one SilenCell for 3-hour maximum per day;
  • First-come, first-served basis if there is no online reservation.

 

  1. Group SilenCell
  • The reservation opens to all library users;
  • Group reservation with min. 2 users is required;
  • The reservation can be made 3 days in advance;
  • One group of library users may occupy one Group SilenCell for 3-hour maximum per day;
  • First-come, first-served basis if there is no online reservation.

 

  1. Quiet Study Room
  • The reservation opens to all library users;
  • The reservation can be made 3 days in advance;
  • One person may occupy one Quiet Study Room for 4-hour maximum per day;
  • First-come, first-served basis if there is no online reservation.

 

  1. Meeting Room
  • The online reservation opens to academics/staff only;
  • The reservation can be made 7 days in advance;
  • Time length for online reservation: max. 4 hours/block without block limit;

 

  1. Research Room
  • The online reservation opens to academics/staff only;
  • The reservation can be made 7 days in advance;
  • Time length for online reservation: max. 3 days/block without block limit;

 

Regulations and Policies

  1. All users MUST comply with the Law of the People’s Republic of China, and all University Library policies and regulations.
  2. Each user can only reserve one kind of group study rooms at a time.
  3. Access to the Group Study Room is permitted only for purposes of studying and researching.
  4. Please take care of the equipment and facilities so that we can continue to offer you these services.
  5. Conversational noise is to be expected within the room. Please DO NOT shout or raising your voice when you talk within the room.
  6. Distribution of leaflets and displays of posters are extremely forbidden within the room.
  7. NO food or drinks with exception of clear water are allowed to enter the room. Please remove the garbage when you leave the room.
  8. All Group Study Rooms are smoke-free.
  9. Please take care of your own belongings. Library takes NO responsibilities for any lost or damage of personal items.
  10. Please leave the room when your booking time comes to an end. You must remove all your personal belongings, as well as other items you brought into the room, and return all equipment and facilities to their original state.
  11. Please turn off light and close door when vacating rooms.
  12. The Library reserves the right to cancel bookings at any time.
  13. Violations of this policy and other library policies and regulations when using the room may result in, but not limited to, removal from the room and/or suspension of privileges.
