This workshop compares academic and popular resources, detailing the definitions, citation formats, and applications of various academic materials such as books, journal articles, and conference papers. You will learn to identify authoritative sources, avoid common mistakes in academic writing, and uphold integrity through proper citations. It also offers solutions for emergency literature searches and formatting adjustments.

This workshop will introduce the basic functions of library catalogues and databases, covering both simple search and advanced search of resources in the collection, as well as resource requests. It will also include the use of library databases, along with the types of major databases and usage examples. In addition, other services provided by the library will be introduced, including Inter-Library Loan and Document Delivery, Purchase Request and application for access permissions to The CUHK Library.

Web of Science is the world's most influential citation index database, renowned for its powerful citation analysis and tracking capabilities, and is widely used for research output evaluation. Scopus is currently the largest comprehensive abstract database by coverage. Ei Compendex specializes in engineering and technology literature. This workshop will provide an in-depth analysis of the core functionalities and application techniques of the Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus, and Ei Compendex, empowering you to efficiently pinpoint core literature, objectively evaluate journal quality, track cutting-edge developments, and access high-quality academic information.

Efficient access to academic literature is fundamental to conducting research. This workshop focuses on practical methods and techniques for searching and accessing full-text journal articles and conference. The main topics include: a systematic overview of the library's collection of Chinese and foreign-language full-text databases across all major disciplines; strategies for efficiently accessing full texts in different scenarios; and demonstrating database usage and search techniques using ScienceDirect and CNKI as examples—empowering you to quickly locate critical literature, access full texts efficiently, and improve research efficiency.

Chinese Ancient Books are very useful resources for studying Chinese history, literature, politics, culture, etc. In this session, we will learn the basic classification of Chinese Ancient Books first, and then focus on how to search for Chinese Ancient Books in the library collection.

It covers the use of specialized databases like WRDS and CNRDS, along with practical tips for data verification and quick analysis.
